New Members

We are always looking for new members to keep our club active. Joining the club is a simple matter of making an application by giving us your details; we then put this to the Management Committee. Once your membership is approved and your fees are paid then your membership is completed. Inexperienced or novice archers must complete the beginner’s course before we will take their membership.

Behaviour on the Welbeck Estate

Access, Driving & Parking
Observe a 20 mph Speed Limit for all vehicles on the estate, respect all traffic junctions as if they were a public highway and be alert for other road users. Take particular care if you encounter livestock (horses, cattle, sheep, pheasant) on the estate, be prepared to slow down or stop and give particularly wide clearance so as not to give rise to concern.

Members and guests should park on the left of main drive approaching the Abbey no further than the ground access. When the weather is good and the ground is sufficiently dry members should park on the shooting ground immediately to the right of the access gate.

The grass on the ground entrance is easily rutted up by car tyres, so common sense should be your guide at all times, no wheel spins and dead slow at all times please, if in doubt; park on the main drive.

Welbeck Archers have permission to use the Abbey Bottoms and Lady Margaret Hall and to gain direct access through the estate from either the Lady Margaret Hall entrance or the Dukeries Garden Centre entrance for this purpose. Do not trespass in to other parts of the estate without express permission.

Pets
W
e are not allowed to bring any livestock on to the estate. It is preferred that domestic animals (cats, dogs) are not brought on to the estate but in any case they should be on a lead and under the owners control and certainly give no cause of concern to other livestock or other users on the estate.

And At All Times
Behave respectfully to residents and other users of the estate, remember at all times we are guests.

Young People
The Club applies the GNAS policy on Young Persons & Vulnerable Adults; a copy of this is available on request.
The Club has appointed a Protection Officer and Deputy Officer for Young Persons & Vulnerable Adults. Junior Members under 18 have to respect reasonable instructions from the Club for their own safety and wellbeing.

The Club, it’s Officers and Members can not accept the responsibility for care of persons less than 18 years of age (or vulnerable adults) unless this is expressly given and agreed. Therefore; members under the age of 18 years of age must be under the direct supervision of a parent/legal guardian or a person expressly nominated by a parent/legal guardian at all times. This includes transport to and from any activities organised by Welbeck Archers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old do you have to be?
We have many junior members, there is no absolute age limit but certainly young people at 8 or more can pick the sport up very quickly, any young person under 8 age we recommend they have a 1 session taster session to see how they get on.

Is it Difficult?
Like all sports being good at archery takes skill, physical ability and practice, the more of these you can put in to your archery then the better you will be. We get most people shooting reasonably within their first session and the good thing is that the more you practice then the quicker you will pick up the skill and physical ability.

Does it cost a lot?
No - simple equipment, club fees and beginners course fees are very reasonably priced.

Am I too old?
No!

Are there competitions?
Yes, every weekend if that's what you want to do. There are archery competitions from simple club shoots to international competitions.

Can I hunt with the bow and arrow?
No! Its illegal to shoot at any animal with a bow in the UK.

Can I shoot anywhere?
The police would regard a bow as an offensive weapon if it was carried in a public place. We recommend that shooting is conducted under the supervision of registered clubs.

Was Robin Hood real?
Yes; we like to think so.
